At KCR Retail Systems we also have business systems analysis and database development experience which includes producing complete bespoke systems using several dialects of SQL and a number of other, older database systems such as those based on dBase.
This has meant that we have considerable experience of capturing data from old systems and migrating it into formats suitable for importing into new SQL based systems often writing simple programs to clean or systematically modify the data on the way.
Where customers are moving into bar coded EPOS systems from other more simple systems we have been able to generate product files in a number of ways.
Sometimes people have spreadsheets containing product information. We have loaned them a barcode scanner, added an extra column to their spreadsheet and sent them off to scan their stock. Otherwise people have had access to product files from their suppliers from which we have found simple methods of generating reports to form the basis of their new product files. It saves an awful lot of typing and potential transcription errors if you can employ this kind of method.
